History of George Lambert Blamires



Taken from Book of Remembrance of his wife, Nettie Alberta Cottrell Blamires.

Schools Attended: Kaysville Public school and Kaysville Academy.

Vocation: A farmer. He lived on the farm where he was born until he was called on a mission. After 2 years and 8 months he returned and lived in his parents home a year and 9 months, his parents having moved from the farm while he was away to a home in town. When he married, returned to the farm and remained there until his death 4 November 1953.


Church Positions: A missionary to the Swiss and German Mission. Left home for his mission 1 December 1908, arrived in Zurich Switzerland 25 December 1908. Arrived home 11 August 1911. Served as 2nd Counselor in Presidency of Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association of Kaysville, Ward Davis Stake from 1911 to 1912. Served on a Home Mission from March 1912 to September 1912. Served on a Stake Mission at one time years later. He was one of Seven Presidents of the 55 Quorum of Seventies from 11 July 1940 to 10 October 1948. At the time of his death he was a counselor in the Kaysville 2nd Ward Genealogical Committee. He was active in choir work all his life. He was blessed with a good tenor voice and had a great love for good music. While serving on his mission he made use of every opportunity to attend operas and go through art gallaries. He traveled in France, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and England.

He did temple work for many years. He had a very good knowledge of the Gospel being a constant reader of the Scriptures and other church work.

George Lambert Blamires was ordained a Seventy 12 February 1928 by Elder Melvin J. Ballard. Melvin J. Ballard was ordained a seventy 6 July 1896 by Elder John Henry Smith. John Henry Smith was ordained a Seveny by President Joseph Young in May 1874. Joseph Young was ordained a seventy by Joseph Smith. Sidney Rigdon and Oliver Cowdery 28 Febuary 1835. Joseph Smith the Prophet, and Oliver Cowdery were ordained to the Melchizedek Priesthood by Peter, James and John in June or July 1829 who were ordained by the Savior.

Returned from German Mission on the ship Cedric 11 Aug. 1911which depared from Liverpool England . He was 23 years old.

Hobbies: Music had a beuatiful voice, loved to sing. Sang in church  choirs. Enjoyed gardening and use to grow prize winning Dahlias. Had a beautiful row of red Pionies along his long the drive way. He loved to read and had the complete set ot Mark Twain's works.  He use to make the most delicious Pineapple Ice cream.  His favorite evening meal was bread and milk with a peace of cheese on the side.  



After the war and after his sons all left, he farmed in a smaller way, he had 3 cows and sold the milk to the milkman, and rented out most of his land. He still had his two work horses and wagon. His wife gave piano lessons and kept a hen house and sold the eggs.

When George was a boy of fifteen it was his job to haul hay to Salt Lake City from Kaysville. He had to start before sunrise in order to make it back to Kaysville shortly after dark.
In the winter when he got home, he would crawl under a four-legged stove to get warm.

Kaysville- George Blamires, 65 farmer, died wednsday in an Ogden hospital.
Born Dec. 23 1887, in Kaysville, son of Lambert and Rhoda Jane Bone Blamires. Married Nettie Alberta Cottrell May 7 1913, in Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a member of Kaysville second LDS ward.
Survinng his Widow, Kaysville: five sons and three daughters Hurman C. and Clifford C Blamires, Kaysville: James R. Blamires, Tulsa, Okla,; Veron L. Blamires, Lehi: Melvin C Blamires, Farmington: Mrs Alice Smith Layton: Mrs Verna Vance and Edith Falkner, Kaysville: 17 grandchildren: A brother and two sisters. Funeral annoucnment will be made by Lindquist and sons Mortuary.

World war I regisrtion card dated 5 Jun 1917 he was age 29, farmer with a wife and two children.
He was tall with a slender build. He has gray eyes and light brown hair.
