I received this today from the wonderful people at the St. Andrews-Kenn Church in St. Andrews, Kenn, Devon, England. I've been in correspondence with the clerk for the past few months.
On April 6, 2016 I sent the following message:
Hello, I'd like to know if your church has a graveyard and if so I'd like to know if a Richard Bone (d. 1831) or a John Anstey (d.1828) are buried there. Thank you!
The reply:
We can locate records for Bone and Anstey. Our sexton advises:- John Anstey d 16/04/1828 aged 52 The Parish Clerk Buried Area C A 645 a later John Anstey took on the roll of Parish Clerk possibly the son of this John Probably keeping it in the Family ! Richard Bone entries For Richard Bone Navigator and Richard Bone died aged 29 march 22 1831 there are several Bone entries
But we do not know where the remains are.
I hope this helps. Kind regards Rod Harbottle
Thank you so much. I truly appreciate it. I didn't know that John Anstey was the Parish Clerk. Thank you again!
Last thought, just to confirm that both people are buried at St Andrew's?
In answer to your question - Not quite: John Anstey is buried in St.Andrew's churchyard as we have a burial record for him. Richard Bone has a death record but not a burial record. It is probable that he is buried in St.Andrew's as this is a rural area but we have no record of the actual burial so we cannot confirm that he is actually buried here. There could be a family plot elsewhere, he could have been buried elsewhere or the burial was simply not recorded. Your history search for him may have to go on! As noted we have several 'Bone' deaths recorded but no Bone graves so that is in itself part of a nearly 200 year old unsolved question. Kind regards. Rod
And today: Hi Nicol, St.Andrews churchyard is cleared seasonally. John Anstey's headstone is now clear. Thought you might like a picture.
