75% wounded in WWI. Shooting guns off (not in trenches) and blew fingers off. Walked down the hill and had the choice of riding in the ambulance or to continue walking down the hill. Decided to go down the hill on his own. On his way down the ambulance was blown up. Thankful that he wasn't in it.
