Esther was born in Marion co, her parents were believed to be from Kentucky.She spent all her life in Marion county, but for 2 years in Butler co Kansas in 1883 to 1885 and in 1890 to 1892 in Bradley Co Tennessee.

Mrs. Esther Pryor died at her residence, Tuesday July 27, 1897, after a sickness of some fourteen months. Her maiden name was Cowan and she was born May 3, 1834, and was 63 years old when she died. She was married to the late Capt. P.M. Pryor in November, 1869, and leaves six children, W.S., Sallie V., Matthew T., Samuel P., Edgar L., and Edwin A. Pryor. She had three surviving brothers, William and Joseph Cowan, who live in Texas, and B. F. Cowan, residing at Whitwell, Tenn.
The funeral took place Wednesday at Red Hill church, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. J. Crawford.
Mrs. Pryor was a quiet unpretentious person, good wife and mother, and highly respected in the community and the sympathy of the community goes out to her surviving family.
Buried in Red Hill Cemetery one mile north of Whitwell. Next to her father William Cowan and her mother Cynthia Morgan Cowan.
I don't think she had much when she died, her sons had to move out of her house. and everything sold.
There was a public sale on Saturday and the Pryor effects were dispose of Mr. S.P. Pryor goes to Pikeville for a year, W.S. Pryor will board with (his sister) Mr. and Mrs. V Lasater, and Edgar and Edwin will live with their brother Matthew.
